Artist Statement:
Having a muse like Moab makes being in the right place at the right time very easy. I spend most of my time alone, living outside, in direct relationship to the landscape, boondocking off grid. It blows my mind that I am the only person on the planet seeing what I get to see. Whether it's a moment of lighting, the view from my camp spot, an eagle flying over, a trail with no human tracks, or the sun aligning perfectly with an arch, each instance feels miraculous and almost overwhelming. For a long time, my photography felt like a documentary process of the moment I was experiencing. It was the moment, the isolation, the scenery, the sky, the rocks, what I was seeing with my eyes that was the “art”. I couldn’t see the role of the photograph in improving upon reality. Until one day, my Dad told me that the photographer's role is to transform reality into something iconic. And then it clicked for me that a photograph could transcend documentation of reality; it could be an interpretation, a communication, an embodiment of my unique experience. My photography now seeks to capture and share these iconic, sublime moments where chance meets intention.
