Artist Statement: I'm a Utah kid, born in Salt Lake City and raised in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, where I learned my love of wilderness and wildness. I studied Fine Arts at the University of Utah, focusing on sculpture. I drifted towards painting after leaving school, young and full or wonder. In the autumn of 1997 I moved to Moab. Over the last 25 years, my art has metamorphosed from plein air landscapes to social satire cartoon realism, to textural abstracts, to figurative studies, and more. Although my styles are restless in change, the desire to express has been steady. My latest manifestations, which I call "Landscraps", are a fusion on a couple of levels. I see them as painterly in composition, yet sculptural in assemblage. The materials are from the construction industry - plaster and salvaged plywood - scraps that are typically destined for the landfill, tehy combine my creative design with my builidng skills.
